EPTO by ODYNE

New from ODYNE! An all electric PTO Drive System that is ideal for air compressors and generator systems.

Specifications

Energy Storage System

Lithium-Ion NMC Battery pack(s), scalable by 17.5 kWh, operates at 355V nominal.

Electric Motor and Inverter Assembly

High Power compact liquid-cooled permanent magnet motor and power take-off providing up to 160 ft-lbs (215 nm) of continuous torque, 260 ft-lbs (350 nm) of peak torque. Liquid cooled traction inverter is used to control the electric motor by using DC power from the energy storage and converting it to AC to power the electric motor.

The electric motor provides power for vehicle mounted equipment at the work site (hydraulic pump, air compressor), enabling all-electric stationary operation, and provides the ability to quickly recharge the energy storage using the engine if the batteries become depleted before being recharged by the grid.

Low Voltage DCDC Converter

Maintains and charges the 12V vehicle chassis battery during ePTO (engine off) operation and plug in charging.

Thermal Management

An active thermal management system provides the capability to actively liquid cool the power electronics.

Cab Display

Cab mounted display screen shall provide the operator with data about the ePTO system and troubleshooting codes.

Auxiliary Cab Heating and Air Conditioning System (Optional Add-On)

The ePTO system can provide an auxiliary cab HVAC system during the ePTO work site mode while the engine is not running. Heat shall be supplied by circulation of warm engine coolant, and air conditioning shall be supplied using an electrically driven refrigeration compressor.

Exportable Power (Optional Add-On)

DC to AC inverter assembly providing 6kW or greater of pure sine wave single phase power at either 120V or 240V. Eliminating the need for engine-driven generators.

Recharging Capability from Grid, J1772 compliant

The primary method for recharging the energy storage system, Odyne uses SAE J1772 standard charging procedure. Level 1 or Level 2 EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) chargers can be used to recharge from the grid.

Recharging Capability from Engine

During the workday (or if the vehicle is without access to grid power), if the energy storage drops below a certain level, the ePTO system has the capability to automatically start the engine and perform a quick field recharge of the energy storage. During this time, the vehicle mounted equipment operation is unaffected, as the transition in and out of engine recharging is seamless.

Parallel-Hybrid Propulsion (Launch Assist & Regenerative Braking)

The Odyne System can assist vehicle acceleration during takeoff by putting power into the transmission (motoring) through the PTO, reducing the work done by the engine and bringing the vehicle to speed faster.

During deceleration (foot off the accelerator pedal, or on the brake pedal), the Odyne System harvests energy (generating), putting energy back into the Hybrid Battery. This can reduce brake wear and assist the vehicle coming to a stop.

Transmission / PTO Connection

Transmission Warranty Retention

Allison Transmission, Inc. has globally endorsed the use of its 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 Series transmissions with the Odyne ePTO Electrification System as the exclusively approved PTO-based hybrid system. The Odyne System retains the Allison Transmission warranty, and any OEM chassis components can be serviced through the chassis manufacturer’s service network.

Telematics

The ePTO system will utilize a data collection system to analyze daily operation, ePTO utilization, diagnostics, etc.

Safety

Driveaway Protection

While the Odyne ePTO system is recharging from the grid, engine cranking is inhibited to prevent the vehicle from starting and driving with the charge cord still plugged in.

High Voltage Interlock Loop (HVIL)

ePTO components capable of operating at voltages greater than 60V shall utilize a high voltage interlock loop (HVIL). When the vehicle is in a running state or parked state in ePTO mode, if the interlock loop is broken due to a malfunction or known disconnection for service, the ePTO system disconnects the energy storage and discharges any remaining voltage to a safe level < 60 V.

High Voltage Bus Active Discharge

When the energy storage is disabled, the Odyne System will discharge the high voltage bus quickly to a safe level < 60 V.

Energy Storage Isolation / Ground Fault Detection

Odyne ePTO System can detect an isolation or ground fault between the energy storage system and the vehicle chassis.

Crash / Inertia Sensor

The Odyne System can detect sudden vehicle events, such as crashes, and will quickly disable the energy storage system and discharge the high voltage bus.
