Bicyclists travel north on A Street after leaving Kesling Middle School as they begin their Tour de LaPorte journey Sunday morning. The bike tour raises funds to provide items and services for patients being treated for cancer at La Porte Hospital.

As of Wednesday, 222 riders and walkers had registered for the tour, as well as hundreds of volunteers. Walkers, runners and bicylclists had their choice of several courses, including a 103-mile “century” ride. A celebration, including lunch and music, was held after the races finished. Al’s Supermarkets donated all the food, and other major donors were La Porte Radiology, Boss Industries, Showmen Supplies, Larson-Danielson, Emcor, Duneland Beach Inn, Raymond James, New York Blower, La Porte Amateur Radio Club and Pavey Excavating. Brentwood Assisted Living donated funds and space to store items.
